Coming to the Capital Fringe Festival: ‘Planet Egg’ by Ali Skye Bennet

“It started with the search for a puppet who could really ‘die,’” recalls mastermind, Zvi Sahar. Experiments with shaving sweet potatoes and tightrope-walking eggs over a frying pan ensued; however, the poignant story and imaginative world of Planet Egg did not emerge until one morning, during a typical Israeli breakfast: “My dad was fixing a phone, my mom made eggs sunny-side-up. I looked at them both and realized – I know what my new show is going to be!”

Tiny puppets, live cinema, and vegetables collide in Puppet Cinema’s epic space odyssey, Planet Egg. When an outer-space Robot crash-lands on a mysterious planet, he encounters locals unlike anyone he’s ever known. Cultural misunderstandings, murder, romance, forgiveness, and revenge abound on this all-organic world as our Robot seeks a way home. Performed and filmed live with a full score of live Foley, this unique theatrical experience is not to be missed. Featuring puppetry by Zvi Sahar and Justin Perkins, and the sound design of Foley artist, Ien DeNio. Produced by Ali
Skye Bennet.

Planet Egg was developed in the St. Ann’s Warehouse’s Puppet Lab in NYC and shown at the Labapalooza! Festival (A TimeOut New York Critic’s Pick) in June 2011. In August 2011, an expanded version was presented at the International Puppetry Theater and Film Festival in Holon, Israel, and again in the fall of 2011 at New York’s Dixon Place. Most recently, Planet Egg performed as part of the Spring Artist Lodge at HERE over Easter weekend, 2012.

You can catch Planet Egg at the Capital Fringe from July 18 – July 29th at The Warehouse – 645 New York Avenue.
