I’ll never forget Tuesday, September 2, 2008, the night that inspired me to write Domino’s Pizza Saved My Life. The Republican National Convention was in St. Paul, and I’d come over from Minneapolis to hear some music and to check out the protests. Before the evening was over, Domino’s Pizza did indeed save my life. (Or at least, it saved my butt).
But there’s more to my play than just one story. With songs in three languages, this solo comedy is bursting with both physical humor and real depth. From Russia to riot police, summer love to the fall of empire…and other momentous moments in history.
I premiered Domino’s Pizza Saved My Life at last year’s Minnesota Fringe Festival, where it sold out its run, winning the encore slot and earning rave reviews. It’s my third solo play and with it, I feel I’ve truly found my artistic voice. I’m sharing myself through story and song, and in doing so, I’m inviting audiences to connect with me, with themselves, each other, and with people they’ll never meet. (Don’t worry: it’s still funny). In the next two years, I plan to bring Domino’s Pizza Saved My Life to festivals and audiences across the country. Washington DC is the first stop on that tour.
