Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts will honor Michael Kaiser, president of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as it celebrates its 20th anniversary at its annual Cabaret Benefit Dinner and Auction on Monday, November 12 at the Mayflower Hotel.
Kaiser is being recognized for his part in helping The Theatre Lab pursue its mission of transforming lives through theatre. He played a critical role in fostering the development of My Soul Look Back and Wonder, an original production of The Theatre Lab’s Life Stories program. The program was created and performed by homeless women in recovery, and premiered at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theatre last spring. Kaiser’s award will be presented by former Washington, DC councilmember Carol Schwartz.
The cabaret benefit raises funds to support initiatives like Life Stories and The Theatre Lab’s other educational and outreach programming. In addition to a silent and live auction, and performances by Theatre Lab students, this year’s benefit will also feature a preview of a documentary about the Kennedy Center performance directed by filmmaker Nicole Boxer. Last year’s benefit raised over $180,000 to fund financial aid and Theatre Lab programming.
The evening begins at 5:30 pm with cocktails and the silent auction. Dinner begins at 7:00 pm with entertainment and the live auction.
