Van Dean, Co-conceiver of the event says, “The feedback has been so tremendous from the Newtown Community and the Broadway community as well as fans who want to keep this extraordinary experience going.  We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to give back and are thankful for the response.  This auction is another opportunity for people to be a part of the FROM BROADWAY WITH LOVE experience and to bid on some fantastic items for this important cause.”

The FROM BROADWAY WITH LOVE event began as a live performance by more than 100 of Broadway’s Best along with performers from the Sandy Hook school and Newtown community on Monday, January 28, 2012 at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT for an intimate crowd full of families directly affected by the tragedy in Newtown, first responders who were at the school that day and Sandy Hook Elementary School’s students, families, teachers, and administrators. This one of a kind concert event has resonated throughout the theatre and Newtown communities and the feedback has been overwhelming.

The Broadway community came together in the special way that they do when Van Dean, the Tony-Award winning Broadway Producer, originally from the Newtown area, received a Facebook message from Newtown resident Brett Boles, author of the musical Foreverman, just following the tragic events of December 14th. Said Van, “After Brett suggested the notion of a benefit concert to me, I immediately posted a note on my Facebook page looking for volunteers.  Within a few hours I had 100 responses and knew that this would become something very special.”  The result was the Broadway community of 150+ performers, composers, musicians, tech and design professionals and producers joining together with the Newtown community to create a once in a lifetime evening of healing and love.

Brian “Stokes” Mitchell performed Impossible Dream” from his Tony-nominated Man of La Mancha, Linda Eder performed “If I Had My Way”, originally written after 9/11, Phillip Boykin, performed just after hearing of the death of his own father, Robin DeJesus, Julia Murney, Mary Testa, Stephen Schwartz, Frank Wildhorn and many others joined over 100 top stars of Broadway along with 72 Newtown dancers performing “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray, with Nikki Blonsky, Brooke Tansley, Micky Dolenz and Capathia Jenkins accompanied by the song’s composer, Marc Shaiman. Just when we thought the emotion couldn’t peak any higher, the show culminated with the entire From Broadway With Love company and students from Sandy Hook Elementary School performing Barry Manilow’s “One Voice.” Those involved said that they were there to show their love and support and to help create a beautiful and meaningful experience together with members of the community.  It was an amazing showing of Broadway’s best at their best.
