SHOW DETAILS:
Recovery is an authentic, funny, and powerful play whose characters are connected through confrontations with leukemia, a catalyst that brings to the fore the ultimate questions about the essential meaning of existence, the challenges of facing death, and the will to continue and forge new, meaningful connections. It is a play about maintaining one’s identity, sense of humor, and the will to keep moving forward, even under the most challenging circumstances.
Recovery made its Off-Off Broadway debut in June 2010 with the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, where it received multiple awards, before heading to the 2011 Minnesota Fringe Festival and returning to New York City as an official selection of the 15th Annual New York International Fringe Festival, where it was an audience favorite.
Actors cast will receive a small stipend.

Auditions will be held April 20, 2013 from 12pm – 5pm;
Callbacks to follow immediately after from 5:30 pm to 7 pm.
Preparation:
Actors are requested to prepare two (2) one-minute monologues; one contemporary comedic and one contemporary dramatic. Actors may also be asked to perform a cold reading from the play.

male; late 20’s – early 30s; open ethnicity; a Leukemia patient; sincere, quirky, earnest, charming, strong sense of humor; his eagerness stems from a sense of nothing to lose, including his health.[KATHLEEN RHODES]female; late 20s – early 30s; open etnicity; a leukemia patient; intelligent, pragmatic, an eternal questioner, tells it like it is, holding back a secret; trying to maintain her identity while dealing with life and death issues and an unexpected romance.[DR. GREG BESTAR]male; 60’s; open ethnicity; a leukemia specialist in a mid-life crisis; warm, empathetic, dedicated, emotionally complicated, trying to hold it together.
[LUCILLE]
female; late 20s to early 30s; open ethnicity; a young nurse; former beauty queen, sassy, take-charge, yet vulnerable; wants to be liked, out to heal the world but having trouble fixing her own problems; the play’s conscious.

mid 20s to 40; open ethnicity; multiple voices and physicality; delivers monologues based on real leukemia patients, including a middle-aged Long Island woman and a twenty-something MBA professional, as well as hospital staff in narrative thread.
