Jimmie Walker, well known for his claim to be “Dyn-o-mite” moderated the 26th Annual Evening of Comedy at The Barns of Wolf Trap on Friday night. He is most famous for TV series Good Times, which introduced the wisecracking, skinny, gawky, and hilarious kid to American audiences. Walker has appeared everywhere, including top comedy clubs and his joke-writing team included a young David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Byron Allen. While no longer skin and bones Jimmy was hilarious as he  mocked Marion Barry, President Bill Clinton, and other black and “honorary black” political figures. Jimmy, or “J-J”, is unexpectedly a Fox News kind of guy, proud that he didn’t vote for Barack Obama, and never would.

Kelly Monteith has been a comedian for 35 plus years, with his own shows on CBS and the BBC, as well as the Playboy Club circuit. Said to be a favorite of the British Royal Family, the BBC show had a 6-year run in which he played the life and times of a stand up comedian, an American in Britain farce. Sometimes compared to Robin Williams, he is able to play many different characters with rapidly shifting voices.  One of his best routines has him discussing while acting out symptoms of various maladies while displaying them himself, with stammers, hiccups, and twitching. It was hysterical!

Mitchell Walters, aka ‘The Area Code Guy,’ gave a tour de force performance as he rattled off area codes for all the home towns of audience members and riffs in free association fashion between the area codes and his ironic and sometimes bizarre take on everyday occurrences. He has many solutions to problems you didn’t know you had, like how to get free tires for your car and how to get more bang for your buck when shopping for marijuana. He had some marvelous suggestions for dealing with Jehovah Witnesses at your door, pointing out that Halloween would be an ideal occasion for them to canvass the neighborhood because people would be much more likely to open the door. If you have a little larceny in your repertoire, he can tell you how to maximize your benefit from a rental car.  It was worth the price of a ticket, I assure you.

This was a five star performance, which got better and better as the night progressed, with so many laughs.

26th Annual Evening of Comedy played on May 3 and 4, 2013 at The Barns at Wolf Trap – 1635 Trap Road, in Vienna, VA. For information about other Wolf Trap events, check their calendar of events.
