Bowie Community Theatre Offering New Youth Theatre Program Starting February 1st by John Nunemaker

In an effort to expand its influence in the community, Bowie Community Theatre will begin offering youth theatre programs starting February 1, 2014. The first series of classes begin with a 10-week course that will introduce the students to the different aspects of theatre through weekly activities and games. The program will end with a final performance by the students on the last day of class.

smallyouthStudents who enroll in this program will gain knowledge of and skills in theatre arts, improvement of literacy skills, imagination, and critical thinking.

There are two different groups at this time: Ages 6-10 from 11:00am – 1:30pm and Ages 10-14 from 2:15pm – 4:15pm. Both will be held on Saturdays from February 1, 2014 – April 5, 2014.

The cost is  $75 per child for the entire 10-week course. This program is being funded in part by a generous grant from the City of Bowie Arts Committee.

These classes, which BCT plans on continuing to offer and add to as time goes on, will allow youth in Bowie and the surrounding areas to engage in activities that are creative and nurturing. It is BCT’s hope that by encouraging their interest in theatre production, live community theatre will continue to be a thriving source of enrichment and entertainment in Bowie and surrounding areas. We need to invest in future generations if art is to survive.

BCT plans on offering two classes this spring and hopefully grow from there into the summer and fall. Amanda Magoffin, who recently joined the BCT Board of Directors, will be heading up our Youth Theatre Program. For more information, you may contact her at [email protected] or call (240) 601-1780.

All classes will be conducted at the Kenhill Center-2614 Kenhill Drive, in Bowie, MD (formerly Bowie City Hall).
