Capital Fringe 2014 Preview: ‘Intrigue, a mystery on marley…’ by Mary Stiegelbauer

The game is afoot!

draMAStic dance works is honored to be making its Washington, DC debut at the 2014 Capital Fringe Festival with our original production, Intrigue, a mystery on marley…!

A noir narrative, Intrigue blends contemporary dance and classical ballet to present a Raymond Chandler-‐styled ‘whodunit’. In brief: A body is found, fatally stabbed. Whodunit? Was it the Wife? The Mistress? The Girlfriend? The Secretary? The Detective working the case discovers that they all had a motive, but who had the nerve?

Dwight L. Trice Jr. stars as the Victim, with Bess Badger, Hannah Hampton and Andrea Nealon Misener as the two-‐timed dames, Mary Stiegelbauer as the Secretary, and Jimmy Wencel as the Detective.

The action of Intrigue flows from the women’s relationships with the Victim as told to the Detective during their interviews. The Detective – and the audience – then works to correctly interpret each woman’s testimony relating to their last encounter with the Victim to finger the murderer.

To help bring Intrigue, a mystery on marley… to life, we have the musical talents of Break of Reality, Deviations Project, Ludovico Einaudi, Vitamin String Quartet, and Zoë Keating.

Our Director and Choreographer, Mary A. Stiegelbauer, shared her thoughts on the company and her production: “My favorite phase of creating a performing art piece is the rehearsal process, the collaborative effort that becomes the creation the audience sees. That process is part of what inspired me to form draMAStic dance works whose mission is to create and present original and classic narrative works through a collaborative process between professional and student dancers with a strong theatrical background. Intrigue embodies what an amazingly talented group of highly versatile performers can accomplish when thrown together!”
