No one appreciates a great live music experience more than Live Arts Maryland Music Director J. Ernest Green. One of the area’s most visible and enthusiastic cheerleaders for music of all kinds, if he hears something he loves, he wants everyone to share the experience with him. Happily for area music lovers, the Annapolis Chorale’s first classics concert of the season is full of that kind of music.
On Saturday, November 7, at 8 p.m. at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Mr. Green will conduct the Chorale’s 160 voices and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra in a program called “Music for a New World.” On the program are works by 20th century composers, including John Rutter’s magnificent Requiem paired with a stunning new piece by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo called “Sunrise Mass.” The Annapolis Chamber Orchestra will play the second movement of Henryk Gorecki’s Symphony #3 to complete the evening of ethereal and beautiful music. Jessica Hanel Satava, most recently seen in Live Arts’ production of “Carousel,” will perform the soprano solos. “I love this music because it’s of our own time and instead of being intimidating, it’s very accessible and pleasing,” says Green.
Mr. Green also looks forward to making the most of the newly augmented sound in Maryland Hall’s theatre. “These pieces will show people why choral music is so enjoyable – to listen to and to sing – and why it’s so hot right now,” he says. “People are catching on to it and participating in choral music more and more. The music we’ll be performing is a way for me to show you what makes choral music the dynamic art form that it is.” He will share more about the music on this program at his pre-concert talk that night at 7 p.m. in the theatre.

Students over 18 with valid IDs may visit the box office a half-hour before curtain to receive a free ticket. Students under 18 do not need a valid ID.
