Wash Over You finds travelers moved along an unpredictable, serene yet powerful river. There are many stopping places but can they get “Off the Boat?” Along the way, you’ll be on a raft, on dry land, and on the wrong side of the fence. The only thing to do is pack your bag, stuff your friend into a trunk, and let this new work Wash Over You.
Music is by audio producer, violinist and composer David Schulman. Video vignettes by Jane Franklin reference stop motion animation and supply a whimsical and intermittent backdrop as the journey progresses. Cartoon-like drawings of fish swim past, a quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog; while later on, carnival-like sea waves are placed in the background. Once you get all the way to Playa Verde, you might be invited to read your fortune as you devour a delicious chunk of ice-9.

About Jane Franklin Dance
Jane Franklin Dance crosses disciplines in partnership with music, media, visual artists and community participants. A vibrant part of the Washington DC/Northern Virginia cultural community, Jane Franklin Dance has been presented at multiple venues and festivals and internationally in Mexico. A recipient of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region Creative Communities Award, Jane has developed innovative and collaborative projects combining dancers with the round wall skateboarding community, with a life size kinetic sculpture, with the architecture of a specific site, with dogs & owners, and with interactive live video and sound for numerous public art projects. Jane Franklin is a recipient of the American Association of University Women Elizabeth Campbell Award for the Advancement of the Arts in Arlington, and Jane Franklin Dance has been recognized by Virginia’s Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. The company tours for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Paul Mellon Arts in Education Program and the Virginia Commission’s Tour Directory. Most recently Jane Franklin Dance has been selected for The Alexandria Office of the Arts smART Space Program for an installation project for a vacant retail space.

About David Schulman
David Schulman’s audio work has aired on Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Weekend Edition, Latino USA, and other public radio outlets. He was senior producer of the BBC’s Americana program 2009-2011. He produces the award-winning Musicians in their words series (NPR, APM, PRI), and have served as a program consultant for the launch of programs including APM’s “The Story” with Dick Gordon. Current projects with the WFMT Radio Network range from Native American classical music to contemporary poetry. Other clients include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Al Jazeera America’s investigative unit, and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
