NCE proudly celebrates International Women’s Day all week longĀ and salutes great American music by putting the spotlight on the music of great American composer Amy Beach (1867-1944).

Amy Marcy Beach was a legendary music composer and pianist and was the best woman composer of the time in the United States who also achieved great popularity in Europe. As a woman, she defied all traditional conventions and set footĀ to achieve success in a world of musical maestros to create some of the most notable works of the time. NCE’s musical tribute to theĀ USA will also include several works of great American composers of the past and present:

Aaron Copland, Lowell Liebermann,Ā and Andreas Makris.

This concert will feature NCE members:Leo SushanskyĀ (artistic director/violin), Frank Conlon Ā (piano) andĀ  Lukasz Szyrner (cello)

Young guest artist, violinist Sean Ganous also joins Leo Sushansky in a performance of the work by composer Andreas Makris for two violins. In 1970, Mr. Makris became the first contemporary composer to have his work premiered at the Kennedy Center. He served as the National Symphony Orchestra’s composer in residence from 1979-1989.
