Inside the Numbers: Behind the Scenes Of Bethesda Little Theatre’s ‘Broadway Bios’: Part 3: ‘It’s Willamania Time!’

The Bethesda Little Theatre Presents: Broadway Bios, an Original Musical Revue!

Celebrating its 36th year, the Bethesda Little Theatre will perform the original musical revue, Broadway Bios at The Writer’s Center, just two blocks from the Bethesda Metro, on April 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9, and 10th. Through song and dance, the cast of 19 will give audiences a peek into the lives of some of theatre’s greatest characters whose musicals are based on true stories. Don’t miss your chance to meet Ben Franklin, Fanny Brice, Charlie Chaplin, Eva Peron and more!

Now, let’s go into the rehearsal of “Willamania” from The Will Roger’s Follies.

It’s Willamania Time!

Willa-what? It’s all about Will Rogers in this bio-musical.  Let’s see what our soloists have to say about this country music legend!

Are you Will Rogers or country music fans?

Megan: I’m not that familiar with Will, but I’ve enjoyed reading his quotable quotes. I’m more of an indie rock/pop oldies/big band fan, but I like a good foot stomping country tune here and there.

Shereth: I am not a country music fan at all, but I love the numbers from Will Rogers Follies. Learning my solo has been challenging and wonderful to experience a brand new song for me.

Jane:  I love Dolly Parton.  She’s the greatest storyteller in country music.

What’s your favorite musical about a real person?

Megan: Bye Bye Birdie! Sure, Birdie may not be real, but we all know he’s meant as Elvis… For an actual Broadway bio, I have fond memories watching Sunday in the Park with George with a dear friend on the West End.

Shereth: I am a huge musical theatre fan. My favorite about a real person is Funny Girl., I really want to play Fanny Brice, though Sondheim is my favorite composer.

Jane:  Mamma Rose in Gypsy.  She had so much depth and moxie!

Q: You are all new to BLT – how do you like it?

Megan: Love it! Such a wonderful, talented, friendly group & I’m having a blast getting back into showbiz again. It’s been a few years.

Shereth: I love being a part of BLT. To be honest, I said I would never do community theatre. Never say never! Even though I sing in a choir, it’s not the same as performing in a live theatre show, which  I realize I missed greatly!  I find this to be professional quality and I am having a blast!!  I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing cast!!

Jane: BLT has given me the opportunity to step back on the stage after more than 15 years. It’s a gift!!
