2016 Capital Fringe Review: ‘Ten Principles )'(‘

Ten Principles )’( is storytelling in its purest form: friends getting together to talk about their favorite adventures.

Ten Principles is simple at its core. Get people who have experienced the gathering in the desert that is Burning Man and have them tell their stories. These stories range from simple small-world stories to stories of how Burning Man completely altered a person’s life. As they’ll tell you, most of the storytellers aren’t the most technically skilled performers at the Fringe but they’re people who have a story to tell and that’s enough to make the show both engaging and entertaining.

Each of the stories is different with different people and different lessons, but they all have a common purpose: to give a glimpse into the wild world of Burning Man. The art cars, including the moving dance club that is Robot Heart Art Car; the fire spinning, with its ability to engage even the most jaded; the practice of gifting; and meeting new people are just some of the things talked about. And all the stories talk about the community of Burning Man and they all manage to bring a little bit, just a little taste, of that community into The Argonaut. With audience participation and just the right amount of over-sharing, the storytellers manage to draw the audience into the wild world that is the burn.

Ten Principles )’( is an excellent example of the way the Fringe can bring people together to share experiences, feelings, and just to have a good time. It feels like the party you would have after a friend comes back from Burning Man to get them to tell you about it. If you like fun, this show is recommended for you.

Ten Principles )’( is playing through July 24, 2016 at The Argonaut – 1433 H Street, NE, in Washington, DC. For tickets, call (866) 811-4111, or purchase them online.
