The Migration Project explores human flight through stories of relocation. Whether a family history dating back from multiple generations, or a recent relocation, something is shared through the ‘pull’ to find better opportunity or the ‘push’ to leave because of no choice. The extraordinary increase in global migration over the past 500 years has left traces in our DNAAn immersive visual experience evolves as Jane Franklin Dance and voices from within the community share family histories and interact with the space and with the art. The large scale installation occupies the floor and walls; is contained by the physical boundaries yet comes alive in the space.
Similar to a visual art gallery, audiences will ‘move through’ and participate from various viewpoints rather than one stationary location. The performances progress in tandem with the length of time the installation remains in place.
Rosemary Feit Covey’s art installation, originally shown as The 0 Project, is a large-scale sculptural piece meant to give voice to the underrepresented and traditionally ignored. Printed on Dupont Tyvek banner media, it is installed at Theatre on the Run wrapping the interior from floor to ceiling. Hand-held masks echo the countless faces that create the texture of the banners. Dawn Whitmore adds brief video statements and sound installations drawn from words and phrases provided by individuals who have told their stories.

About Jane Franklin Dance:
Jane Franklin Dance crosses disciplines in partnership with music, media, visual artists and community participants. A vibrant part of the Washington DC/Northern Virginia cultural community, Jane Franklin Dance has been presented at multiple venues and festivals and internationally in Mexico. A recipient of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region Creative Communities Award, Jane has developed innovative and collaborative projects combining dancers with the round wall skateboarding community, with a life size kinetic sculpture, with the architecture of a specific site, with dogs & owners, and with interactive live video and sound for numerous public art projects. Jane Franklin is a recipient of the American Association of University Women Elizabeth Campbell Award for the Advancement of the Arts in Arlington, and Jane Franklin Dance has been recognized by Virginia’s Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. About Rosemary Feit Covey
Rosemary Feit Covey was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her work is housed in over forty major museum and library collections worldwide, including the New York Public Library, the National Museum of American History, Harvard University, and the Papyrus Institute in Cairo, Egypt. In 2012 five-hundred of her prints were acquired for the permanent collection of Georgetown University Library, Special Collections. She is the recipient of a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship ( Bellagio Italy), an Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation National Fine Art Award and a fellowship to Georgetown University Medical Center as the 2007-2008 Artist-in-Residence. Her solo museum exhibitions include the Butler Museum of American Art, the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts and the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago. Articles on her work have been featured in magazines including Art in America, Juxtapoz and American Artist Magazine. Her work can be seen at Morton Fine Art in DC and the Torpedo Art Center in Alexandria.
About Dawn Whitmore
Dawn Whitmore (b. 1983) is a photographer/artist based in Washington, DC. Her work focuses on gender, identity and technology in culture (specifically social media). Whitmore earned a BFA in fine art photography from Corcoran School of Art. Whitmore has exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Hemphill Fine Arts Carroll Square Gallery (Washington, DC), and the Spring Gallery (Brooklyn, New York). She recently won second place in the Photo Review International Competitionon and will have work published in the Winter 2015 edition of the Virginia Quarterly Review (VQR). About Patrick McAvinue
Patrick McAvinue, 2015 International Bluegrass Music Association Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year, is regarded as one of the most innovative and driven young fiddlers in the industry, able to translate the traditions of Bluegrass into a fresh, eclectic, forward-thinking language of his own. Currently, Patrick tours with the acclaimed Bluegrass super-group Audie Blaylock & Redline, the Baltimore-based traditional roots quartet Charm City Junction and is a featured recording artist for the Patuxent Music recording label.
