Preview: Thunderous Productions’ ‘Murder on the Nile’ Opens on Friday, June 23rd at the Greenbelt Arts Center by Aref Dajani and Emily Canavan

Thunderous Productions’ Murder on the Nile is not your parents’ or grandparents’ version of Agatha Christie. Opening Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Greenbelt Arts Center – with a cast that screams diversity – this production invites those who have never been sucked in by Christie’s twists and turns to climb aboard their “small paddle steamer” and enjoy the ride.

Christie loyalists need not worry, however, the production maintains the integrity of the script. There is something for everyone in this show and, by the end, every audience member will see a bit of themselves in at least one of the characters. You don’t have to tell which one!

Two cast members grew up speaking Arabic, bringing a level of authenticity that one does not experience in similar community productions. The cast is both demographically and geographically diverse, with members of the cast hailing from the far reaches of the Washington Metropolitan Area: from Bryans Road in Charles County to Edgewater in Anne Arundel County to Gainesville in Fauquier County!

This production has a triple thrust set design where the audience sits on three sides of the stage. This allows the audience to get closer to the action and stay engaged with every plot twist, even when the Detective trying to figure out WHODUNIT is himself accused of the murder! Set in the 1960s, both the fashionable costumes and the soundtrack will be enjoyable to a wide audience.
