Statement on the Death of DCMTA Staff Writer Wendi Winters

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Capital Gazette Reporter and DC Theater Arts Senior Reviewer Wendi Winters. Winters was killed in the shooting incident which took place on June 28, 2018, at the offices of The Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland.

Writer and Journalist Wendi Winters

A Community News Reporter at The Capital Gazette and a former public relations executive, Winters joined the DC Theater Arts team in 2014, reviewing performing arts productions as a senior staff writer and correspondent.

“We consider ourselves a family at DC Theater Arts and Wendi was a part of that family. We are devastated to learn of her passing,” Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Nicole Hertvik said of Winters.

DC Theater Arts extends our sympathy to Winters’ family and friends. She is remembered as a vibrant and generous individual whose impact will be preserved in the unique voice and the razor-sharp wit which she applied to her critical analysis.

In reviewing a recent production, Winters wrote, “…what you see will never be performed again. Not this way, not in this order.” In these words we find a reflection and testament to her own life; a life lived with grace, elegance, and on her own terms.

DC Theater Arts is proud to have published Wendi Winters’ insightful theater criticism, all of which can be found here.
