Directors Samir Bitar and Yana Landowne, longtime collaborators, engaged 14 playwrights to submit stories around a common theme: leaving and being left. The resulting play—a 70-minute, one-act show—incorporates theater, music, movement, and dance to portray all types of breakups. The stories range from funny to sad, romantic to platonic, and graceful to painful.
Throughout 50 individual scenes, 6 actors create more than 100 characters. Appearing together in all conceivable combinations, the characters and stories span a wide range of relationships. The script and the staging were developed with a careful eye toward portraying relationships of all kinds, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. Stories encompass puppy love, lifelong soulmates, multigenerational romance, interracial dating…and they all come to an end.
50 Ways… plays five performances July 18 through July 28, 2018, at the Christ United Methodist Church in Southwest Washington, D.C. (Waterfront Metro). General admission tickets are $17.
