Riverside Center Welcomes One Singular Sensation with ‘A Chorus Line’

Riverside Center for the Performing Arts in Fredericksburg, Virginia is excited to be celebrating 20 years of bringing the best of Broadway in Virginia with the legendary and iconic Broadway musical, A Chorus Line starring J. Clayton Winters as Zach and Nicole Oberleitner as Cassie. A Chorus Line begins performances on July 25th and runs until Sunday, September 16th.

A Chorus Line held the record as the longest-running show on Broadway for 15 years and heralds nine Tony® Awards including Best Musical, Best Director. and Best Choreographer, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The show follows 17 would-be dancers in their quest to make the cut for a new Broadway Musical. It’s what they’ve worked for — with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives – for the chance to do what they’ve always dreamed of. One by one, they come forward to share the stories of their lives, putting themselves on the line to get a job in the line. When they’re done, so is the audition; and only eight will remain. A Chorus Line is the musical for everyone who’s ever had a dream and put it all on the line to make it come true.

“It was truly the Hamilton of its day in 1975,” states Riverside Center’s Producing Artistic Director, Patrick A’Hearn on the musical’s iconic status. “You couldn’t get a ticket to this show for at least five years during its original run. You know, another original musical opened on Broadway in 1975 and was completely overshadowed by A Chorus Line until it was revived in 1996 when it gained cult status. Can you guess what it was? Chicago.”

A’Hearn has assembled a top-notch cast and production team that is up to the challenge of bringing this legend back to life. This terrific cast is led by J. Clayton Winters as Zach, who is making his debut on the Riverside stage. He is accompanied by Nicole Oberleitner, who is returning to Riverside’s stage as Cassie following her acclaimed performance as Sally Bowles in Cabaret (2012).

The principal cast also includes; Lauren Conley Bolding, Sam Brackley, Anthony Cosby, Thomas Delgado, Annalese Fusaro, Abigail Gardner, Jonathan Hardin, Sydney Kirkegaard, Colby LeRoy, Bridget Lundberg, Josh McWhortor, Mackenna Milbourn, Melinette Pallares, Sally Roehl, TJ Simms, Brook Urquhart, Anthony Williams, Stephanie Wood, and Katherine S. Wright.

The production is directed and choreographed by Penny Ayn Maas and Justin Amellio and music direction by Angie Benson. The creative team also includes DT Willis (scenic design), Michael Jarett (lighting design), Bethany Galyen (sound design), and Jessica Dotson is the Production Stage Manager. Costumes are provided by JMR Costume Designs of Reno, Nevada and are based upon the Original Costume Design by Tony and Academy Award Winner, Theoni V. Aldredge.
