The Jonathan Larson Project, performed at Feinstein’s /54 Below, was a fitting tribute to composer Jonathan Larson, who tragically passed away in 1996 just as his hit musical Rent arrived on Broadway.
Feinstein’s/54 Below Programming Director Jennifer Ashley Tepper curated the song selections. Tepper conducted five years of archival research at the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress, which houses the Jonathan Larson Collection, and interviewed Larson’s family, friends, and colleagues. The result was a treasure trove of previously unperformed, unrecorded, and unheard material.
The Jonathan Larson Project, which played 12 performances at the midtown-Manhattan club, was performed by Broadway regulars Lauren Marcus, Krysta Rodriguez, George Salazar, Nick Blaemire, and Andy Mientus.
Photographer Abby Warhola captured the show’s magic with a series of pictures for DC Theater Arts. Reporting by Deb Miller.
