Doug Robinson is a theatre artist based in the DC Metro Area. He received his BFA from Long Island University in 2015. In 2015 his play Tree Fort premiered at the New York Emerging Artists Festival at the TADA theatre. In 2017 he was the recipient of the inaugural Imagination Stage Rebecca Rice Community Engagement Grant. Currently, he is a teaching artist with Imagination Stage and Adventure Theatre.

Mapping Racism is a collaborative project that will bring public awareness to the effects of land and property use restrictions known as “restricted deed covenants” that were commonplace in the 1920s and 30s and used as tools for racial segregation. Though no longer legal, some of these covenants remain on lease agreements today.

With research provided by the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation, Mr. Robinson will script at 30-45 minute play examining the effects of restricted deed covenants and how they played a role in the shared history of Hyattsville and surrounding communities. The play will receive a staged reading in January 2019 and a full production will take place in May 2019 at both Joe’s Movement Emporium and a yet to be determined location in Hyattsville.

About Ally Theatre Company
Founded in 2016, Ally Theatre Company produces theatre designed to engage audiences through acknowledging and confronting systemic oppression in America.

We aim to join the vital conversations—sparked by generations of thinkers, writers, performers, and activists who paved the way before us—that continue each and every day, by:
● Placing underrepresented populations at the front and center of our narratives and our organization
● Forming alliances with individuals and organizations who share a similar mission
● Producing new theatrical works making their world, national, or local premieres
● Tackling existing theatrical works that forward the conversation
In doing so, we hope to play a small part in creating the space and opportunity needed to form new traditions and conversations, while steadily inching toward the eradication of systemic violence, prejudice, and racism in our society.

Ally Theatre Company is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, formerly Doorway Arts Ensemble
