The Anacostia Playhouse is home to Theater Alliance and rents space to many other performing arts organizations.

The facility, located at 2020 Shannon Place, SE, closed a production of Driving Miss Daisy on December 23rd and is scheduled to open Keith Hamilton Cobb’s An American Moor on January 11th.

A GoFundMe has been started by Nikki Peele, founder of Congress Heights on the Rise, an advocacy group for Ward 8, where the Anacostia Playhouse is located.

Peele says of the campaign: “This GoFundMe campaign is to help replace the equipment and furniture that was stolen or damaged, make repairs, upgrade the security system, install security cameras and to provide the Anacostia Playhouse with funds to support them while they make repairs and recover from this crime. I know it’s the holidays but every single bit counts, please give and share this GoFundMe campaign.”

Theater Alliance lost three computers, a safe, credit cards, an iPad and possibly more.

Incoming Artistic Director Raymond O. Caldwell said of the loss: “As the resident company of Anacostia Playhouse, we are heartbroken by these events. In spite of this happening, we are very proud of our space and our community. We will continue to invite audiences to see and support our work.”
