Riverside Center for the Performing Arts To Stage ‘The Color Purple’

Riverside Center for the Performing Arts is excited to present The Color Purple opening Wednesday, March 13 and running until Sunday, May 5. The Color Purple opened at The Broadway Theatre in 2005, directed by Gary Griffin, produced by Scott Sanders, Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey. The original Broadway production ran from 2005 to 2008, earning eleven Tony Award nominations in 2006. An enthusiastically acclaimed Broadway revival opened in late 2015 and ran through early 2017, winning two 2016 Tony Awards- including Best Revival of a Musical. It is this version that is being staged.

Riverside Center for the Performing Arts Producing Artistic Director, Patrick A’Hearn is pleased to announce a brilliant cast starring Kanysha Williams as Celie, Kadejah One as Sofia, Nia Savoy as Shug Avery, Ashanti Symone Branch as Nettie and Wendell Jordan as Mister. The cast also includes Carl L. Williams (Harpo), William Anderson (Preacher/ Ol’Mister), IO Browne (Squeak), Montel Butler (Pa), Anthony Cosby (Adam), Brandon J. Johns (Guard), Rhonda Oliver (Church Lady), Theodore Sapp (Buster/Bobby), C. Alexander Smith (Grady), Brittany Smith (Church Lady), Chasida Alexa Taylor (Olivia), and Taylor J. Washington (Church Lady).

Our creative team is led by Director, Amy Jones and Music Director, Garrett Jones. Costumes designed by Kyna Chilcot, with scenic design by Frank Foster and projection design by Patrick Lord. The Production Stage Manager is James Davis; George Ligon is the sound designer and our technical director is Allen Bonk. Our creative team is complete with lighting designer, Mike Jarett, and properties master & set dresser, Bridgid Burge.

Note: Regular price tickets: $48-$72. Discounted senior and group rates are available, as well as student rush tickets (with valid student ID). Evening performances start at 7:30 pm with dinner service beginning at 5:30 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Matinee performances start at 1:30 pm with dinner service beginning at 11:30 am on Wednesday and 3:00 pm on Sunday with dinner service beginning at 1:00 pm.
