The building has a deep history of supporting artists. For three years, it served as the home for Duke Ellington School of the Arts during the renovation of their building, and currently houses other arts groups such as StepAfrika! and CityDance.

Joy Zinoman, Studio Acting Conservatory founder, said “We are proud to be in such creative company, and incredibly grateful for the generous support from the city during this time of transition.”

Zinoman added that they are currently finalizing plans for a permanent home and will announce that soon.

The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory has been a part of Studio Theatre for forty-four years when both were founded by Zinoman, who stepped down as Studio’s artistic director in 2010. The current Studio Theatre leadership recently decided to close the school after the 2019 summer classes prompting Zinoman and a team of colleagues to set up a new acting conservatory that they say will offer the same curriculum taught by many of the same teachers but no longer be affiliated with Studio Theatre.
