Call for submissions for the first ‘Virtual Theatre Festival’ this summer

Broadway Theatre Studio, producers of the popular long-running Off-Broadway musical-mixology series The Imbible, is partnering with the iconic theater magazine Playbill to host a brand-new Virtual Theatre Festival of live online productions (VTF Live), scheduled to be broadcast on October 23-25. The selection of new works will livestream exclusively on the Playbill website and on BeTerrificTech, industry leaders in cutting-edge digital technology.

The call for submissions is now open on the festival website, for entries of ten-minute fully-produced plays or musicals that “think outside the black box” and are created to be performed live, in real time, with no pre-recorded segments. They must also be in accordance with The Summer 2020 Production Challenge, requiring that each member of the cast, crew, and production team be in isolation, in a separate location. There is no cost to submit an entry or to participate. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, August 13, with notifications going out on August 24.

A distinguished panel of judges, currently being assembled by Broadway Theatre Studio, will choose a winning production in the October festival, and there will also be an Audience Choice winner selected by festival attendees. Each winner will receive a $1,500 cash prize. Additional details and virtual tickets will be available in the coming weeks. The price of an all-access festival pass for viewers is only $2.99, with $1 of each virtual ticket to be donated to VTF’s charity partner The Actors Fund.
