In Brave Soul Collective online debut, raw monologues about anti-Blackness

Brave Soul Collective (BSC) launches their virtual performance season Sunday, June 28, 2020, at 7 pm EST with Question Marks—an online event of raw, thought-provoking theater that addresses one piercing, imperative question: HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Painfully relevant in this moment, the explosive Question Marks tackles the brutalization and murders of Black people at the hands of police, anti-Blackness, systemic racism, transphobia, and violence aimed at Black trans women.

Speaking about Brave Soul’s fourteenth year and the importance of artistry as a tool of activism, BSC Founder and Artistic/Managing Director Monte J. Wolfe said, “We don’t put pretty bows on our shit. We don’t make it comfortable for you. We speak the truth. We rip off the band-aids and then we treat the wounds. THAT IS what being BRAVE means to me. Art is our key act of resistance and it’s how we shift narratives, how we heal, and how we effect change.”

The company’s official entrance into the new normal of virtual theater features dramatic monologues written by BSC members Thembi Duncan, Josette Marina Murray, and Jared Shamberger, in dynamic performances by Thembi Duncan, Josette Marina Murray, and Monte J. Wolfe.

Brave Soul Collective (BSC) is a Washington, DC-based multi-disciplinary arts, education, and HIV/AIDS outreach organization working to illuminate the lives of LGBTQIA people of color through the performing and healing arts.
