An invitation to ‘Gather Together’ for Thanksgiving with the Broadway Podcast Network

With the crucial need for social distancing to stop the spread of the spiking coronavirus, this year’s Thanksgiving observance will be very different than the traditional annual gathering of family and loved ones. But the Broadway Podcast Network is offering online events to let theater-lovers Gather Together virtually and celebrate the holiday with some of the most beloved stars from Broadway.

Virtual Parade. Design by Squigs.

On Thursday, November 26, you can hop aboard the interactive float (designed by artist Justin Squigs Robertson) in BPN’s “Virtual Parade” to hear Alex Brightman, James Monroe Iglehart, Lesli Margherita, Tonya Pinkins, George Salazar, Michael Urie, and other luminaries from the New York stage recount their favorite Thanksgiving memories. Just click on their mouths to watch personal videos recorded remotely from their own homes to find out for what they’re most thankful. While you’re there, don’t forget to search the website for “Turkey Divas” to enter for a chance to win some fun prizes.

Also on Thanksgiving Day, “Vasthy’s Friends Parade,” hosted by Vasthy Mompoint (The Prom; SpongeBob SquarePants) gives thanks through singing, dancing, playing games, celebrating family, and exploring the history of Indigenous people. Segments feature a duet sung by The Prom’s Isabelle McCalla and Caitlin Kinnunen; a dance party with Dionne Figgins (Motown: The Musical; Memphis); games and fun with Ellyn Marsh (Pretty Woman: The Musical; Kinky Boots); and songs and stories with Lauren Molina (Rock of Ages) and Noodle (played by Rob Morrison, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown). And in a special appearance that considers the roots of Thanksgiving, Matthew Canann will read a book and take us on a journey through the Indigenous history of the land, joined by musicians from his tribe. Donations are welcome, to support the grassroots organization Yee Ha’ólníi Doo (navajohopisolidarity.org) and its relief fund for purchasing two weeks of food for Navajo and Hopi families.

To see the full line-up of offerings for the week, including a selection of Thanksgiving food, sweets, and cocktail recipes prepared by the stars, visit the Broadway Podcast Network. And have a happy holiday!
