How to enjoy dinner theater in your home kitchen

Two food-obsessed devising artists will help you concoct a meal from what's in your pantry while serving up a side dish of sharable laughter.

Tired of figuring out what to cook for dinner? Bored with everything Netflix has to offer? Then Francesca Chilcote and Connor Hogan have just the show for you. In Dinner! Franny and Connor Write a Cookbook, these two food-obsessed friends help you concoct a meal from the ingredients deep in your pantry while serving up a generous portion of laughs.

The custom-catered show is performed live over Zoom for one household (or quarantine pod) at a time. So you don’t have to dress up for Dinner!

Like many a theatrical innovation lately, the concept was cooked up after COVID: “I recently graduated from the Pig Iron Theatre School in Philadelphia,” said Hogan. “Almost immediately after I graduated, however, the pandemic struck, forcing myself, and many other theater artists, online. In isolation, I decided to work with Francesca Chilcote, a dear friend and collaborator, on Dinner! Franny and Connor Write a Cookbook.”

Folks can make Dinner! reservations and buy tickets on the show’s Eventbrite page. Chilcote and Hogan have also been compiling pictures of all the dishes they’ve created with audiences on the show’s Instagram page.

“Our audiences have been raving about the piece and we really just want to get the opportunity to share this with more folks,” said Hogan. Here is some of their post-show praise:

If you’re looking for something different for date night, to spice up an average Tuesday night, or support lovely artists do yourself a favor and buy a ticket. Your soul and your tummy will thank you.

This show was the most fun I had in a really long time. I would recommend it to 100% of people who like food and joy.

There wasn’t much left over last night. Thanks for such a great time…a delicious dinner…[and] for lifting our spirits during such a weird time for all of us.

Francesca Chilcote and Connor Hogan are devising artists based in DC and Philadelphia, respectively, who work in alterna-clown (clown how you least expect it). Life-long friends, they share a love for cooking, eating, sharing stories about food, and, most important, discussing what they want to eat next. Dinner! represents their combined love of food and theater. Through this piece, they hope to share their friendship and their love of food with audiences everywhere.
