Streaming selections of songs and stories to start the week

This week opens online with concerts and conversations from Broadway favorites appearing in three ongoing livestream series that both entertain and enlighten.

The Seth Concert Series – Live today at 3 pm, with a taped replay tonight at 8, Sirius XM Radio personality Seth Rudetsky welcomes special guest Alex Newell (the Broadway revival of Once on This Island; Fox’s Glee; NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) to his weekly pandemic-time virtual series for a show filled with songs and anecdotes. A native of Salem, Massachusetts, and a role model and inspiration for LGBT teens worldwide, Newell, who resides in NYC with beloved dog Nugget, is signed to Atlantic Records and is currently working on a new music to be released in 2020/21.

For tickets, priced at $25 (with a 40% student discount available to those registered with a .edu email address), go online.

Going Forward Empathy Concert – Since April 2020, researcher, educator, analyst, speaker, and producer Elliott Masie and stage and screen star Telly Leung (Broadway’s Aladdin and Rent; TV’s Glee) have co-hosted more than 30 live one-hour Empathy Concerts, watched by tens of thousands of audience members and learning colleagues. Together with many guest Broadway performers and business/learning leaders, they have navigated through the challenges and changes of the pandemic and explored the many facets of empathy during this intense time of crises in our world, including COVID-19, racial and social injustice, and more.

This Monday, June 7, from 4-5 pm, the webinar will consider the theme of Going Forward, as things begin to reopen, but need to evolve to new places of inclusion, diversity, and engagement, rather than going back to pre-pandemic patterns. The livestream will feature performances and perspectives from Deonté L. Warren (Aladdin; Dreamgirls; Sister Act) and Christiane Noll (Jekyll & Hyde; Dear Evan Hansen; Ragtime; The King & I), along with Masie and Leung broadcasting together from a New York City location. You can reserve your free space here. Recordings of past concerts also remain available online.

Jim Caruso’s Pajama Cast Party – A very special 61st installment of the ebullient host and impresario’s weekly series (recently awarded five 2020 BroadwayWorld Awards for excellence in online and live entertainment) will air on Monday, featuring two of the most acclaimed voices on the scene: Emmy and Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Wicked); and multiple Drama Desk nominee Ryan Silverman (Side Show; Passion). The episode will also shine a spotlight on the next generation of Broadway, giving viewers an inside look at a project about which Kristin Chenoweth is extremely passionate, with some of the up-and-coming participants (grades 8-12) in this year’s “Broadway Bootcamp” (which Chenoweth co-directs with Richard Jay-Alexander and John McDaniel).
