Applications now open for free ‘Write It Out!’ virtual workshop with Donja R. Love

Created in 2019 by award-winning playwright Donja R. Love (one in two), and supported by partners National Queer Theater, The Lark, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDSMOBIThe Each Other Project, and GLAAD, the free virtual workshop Write It Out! (WIO!) provides an affirming space for people living with HIV (PLWHIV) to create their narratives in a theatrical framing. By placing PLWHIV at its core, WIO! builds community for people of similar experiences to express themselves freely and artistically, while amplifying the visibility of PLWHIV in the theater and beyond.

Writers at all levels who are eighteen or older and living with HIV are invited to apply to the ten-week program, led twice a week by Love, along with facilitator Timothy DuWhite, with the intention to use the power of imagination and healing for radically transforming the landscape of theater and people living with HIV. The program will culminate in the participants sharing their work Off-Broadway at The Lark, located at 311 West 43rd Street, 5th floor, with professional actors and directors.

Applications for the 2021 edition of Write It Out! are now open and will be accepted through 11:59 pm, on Sunday, August 15. WIO! prioritizes the confidentiality of all applicants and participants; requesting confidentiality will not influence the selection process, and individuals accepted into the program may withhold their identity from being published. The 2021 workshop dates are September 28-December 2, with sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 5-6:30 pm; the final presentation will be held on December 1.
