Get out of the city this weekend with ‘The Doo Wop Project’ in BRT’s outdoor summer concert series

The award-winning Bristol Riverside Theatre in Bucks County, PA, heats up the end of its Summer Music Fest with a high-energy concert by NYC’s The Doo Wop Project this Friday-Saturday, August 27-28. Tracing the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic mid-century sound of five guys on a street corner to their own new “DooWopified” versions of the biggest hits on the radio today, the group takes audiences through several generations of music with their authentic stylings, tight harmonies, and smooth moves.

Performed by five top vocalists from the Broadway stage – Tony nominee Charl Brown (Motown: The Musical), Russell Fischer (Jersey Boys), Dominic Nolfi (A Bronx Tale), Dominic Scaglione, Jr. (Jersey Boys), and John Edwards (Jersey Boys; Smokey Joe’s Cafe Off-Broadway revival), filling in for DWP regular Dwayne Cooper (who’ll be attending his sister’s wedding this weekend) – the popular feel-good show, backed by music director, arranger, and orchestrator Sonny Paladino on piano, is guaranteed to have everybody up on their feet, singing and dancing along to some of the greatest tunes in American pop and rock history.

The set list includes vintage favorites from the Crests, Belmonts, and Flamingos, songs they inspired in the next decade by Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Seasons, and reimagined modern hits from Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5, and Sam Smith.

John, one of the original members of the group (who’ll be appearing in the upcoming Broadway production of MJ: The Musical) tells me, “It’s always a fun time whenever I get a chance to jam out onstage with my DWP family! Looking forward to sharing some of that fun with the audience, as well as some laughter and good music.”

BRT Producing Director Ken Kaissar said, “Who doesn’t love Doo Wop? . . . It’s going to be an irresistible night and a great way to end the summer under the stars.” Co-Producing Director Amy Kaissar added, “There is something so nice about listening to music outdoors . . . the whole experience is just unforgettable . . . It’s a very special experience and one that no one should miss.” So my best advice is, don’t miss it!
