A star-studded grand finale to Broadway’s ‘Curtain Up!’ festival

Confetti rained down on Times Square following a weekend of free public events to welcome back Broadway, bringing a spectacular conclusion to a star-studded grand finale of the Curtain Up! festival on Sunday, September 19, from 11 am-1 pm. Hosted by Jelani Alladin of the Disney on Broadway production of Frozen, the two-hour outdoor show on the mainstage in Duffy Square featured high-voltage performances and appearances by the casts of eighteen new and returning musicals and five plays.

The site in the middle of the theater district was packed with an appreciative crowd in all directions as far as the eye could see, but for those who couldn’t be there in person to join in the celebration, the video can be streamed on the Playbill website and you can see photos of some of the highlights below. And tickets are now available for the 23 Broadway productions represented in the festival finale: the musicals Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations; Aladdin; Caroline, or Change; Chicago; Come From Away; Company; Dear Evan HansenDiana the Musical; Girl from the North Country; Hadestown; Jagged Little Pill; The Lion King; Mrs. Doubtfire; The Phantom of the Opera; Six; Tina – The Tina Turner Musical; Waitress; and Wicked; and the plays Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; Lackawanna Blues; Pass Over; Thoughts of a Colored Man; and To Kill a Mockingbird.
