YAA to put on ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’

Featuring over 80 artists, the production kicks off Young Artists of America's 10th-anniversary season with a return to live theater.

Kicking off their 10th season with a return to live theater, Young Artists of America (YAA) will perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on November 7, 2021, at 4:00 pm at The Clarice Performing Arts Center in College Park, MD. The production is their first live theatrical presentation featuring their combined ensembles since the pandemic hit. For the past 18 months, YAA produced digital productions and hosted outdoor screenings.

Directed and choreographed by Broadway’s Dana Keane (Cats, Me and My Girl) with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the mainstage production of Joseph will feature over 80 artists from YAACompany, YAAOrchestra, and YAAjunior and will include the expanded symphonic orchestrations by John Cameron. Tickets are on sale now. For tickets, more information, and health and safety protocols, visit yaa.org/fall-production.

The show will be the opening to the season-long celebration of 10 years of YAA, an organization that has been reimagining the landscape of performing arts training and providing the brave space for young artists to experiment, take risks, and imagine the world through their artistry over the last decade.

For their spring 2022 production, YAA will present Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida in-person at their home stage of the Music Center at Strathmore on April 3, 2022. Broadway’s Kevin S. McAllister (Caroline, or Change; Come From Away) will direct, and the production will feature over 140 students. Auditions for the production will be held virtually and in-person on December 4 and 5. For more information, visit yaa.org/spring-production. In May 2022, YAA will present Cinderella: Youth Edition featuring their YAAjunior students at AMP by Strathmore.

Young Artists of America (YAA) reimagines the landscape of performing arts training by nurturing an inclusive community of storytellers that challenges dominant norms and fosters creative adaptability in an ever-changing world. Serving students at all skill levels from fifth grade to post-collegiate years, YAA provides the brave space for young artists to experiment, take risks, and imagine the world through their artistry. With an emphasis on individualized relationships between students, top-level teaching artists, and professional mentors, we propel our students in their artistic and personal journey, while bringing exceptional performances to the community. Our dynamic approach prepares students for their future by fostering their capacity to create opportunities on stage and in life as the best versions of themselves. www.yaa.org
