Kicking off their 10th season with a return to live theater, Young Artists of America (YAA) will perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on November 7, 2021, at 4:00 pm at The Clarice Performing Arts Center in College Park, MD. The production is their first live theatrical presentation featuring their combined ensembles since the pandemic hit. For the past 18 months, YAA produced digital productions and hosted outdoor screenings.
Directed and choreographed by Broadway’s Dana Keane (Cats, Me and My Girl) with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the mainstage production of Joseph will feature over 80 artists from YAACompany, YAAOrchestra, and YAAjunior and will include the expanded symphonic orchestrations by John Cameron. The show will be the opening to the season-long celebration of 10 years of YAA, an organization that has been reimagining the landscape of performing arts training and providing the brave space for young artists to experiment, take risks, and imagine the world through their artistry over the last decade.
For their spring 2022 production, YAA will present Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida in-person at their home stage of the Music Center at Strathmore on April 3, 2022. Broadway’s Kevin S. McAllister (Caroline, or Change; Come From Away) will direct, and the production will feature over 140 students. Auditions for the production will be held virtually and in-person on December 4 and 5.
