Winners of the 40th annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Off-Broadway

The 40th annual Lucille Lortel Awards for outstanding achievements in Off-Broadway theater were presented tonight, Sunday, May 4, 2025, beginning at 7 pm, at the NYU Skirball Center, in sixteen competitive categories. Winners were decided by the Voting Committee, comprised of representatives of the Off Broadway League, the Lucille Lortel Theatre, Actors’ Equity Association, Stage Directors & Choreographers Society, and United Scenic Artists, along with theater journalists, academics, and other Off-Broadway professionals.

Of the 70 eligible shows in the 2024-25 season, 32 received nominations. Leading the awards with four wins was Our Class, presented at Classic Stage Company and produced by MART Foundation and Arlekin Players Theatre, in association with Jadow Productions. As was previously announced, special honorees Alice Childress was inducted onto the Playwrights’ Sidewalk, New Federal Theatre received the Body of Work Award, and Carol Fishman was presented with the Edith Oliver Service to Off-Broadway Award.

And the winners of the 2025 Lucille Lortel Awards are:

Outstanding Play: Here There Are Blueberries, written by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich;

Outstanding Musical: Three Houses, music, lyrics, and book by Dave Malloy;

Outstanding Revival: Our Class, written by Tadeusz Słobodzianek, adapted by Norman Allen;

Outstanding Solo Show: Vanya, co-created by Andrew Scott, Simon Stephens, director Sam Yates, and Rosanna Vize, adapted by Simon Stephens, performed by Andrew Scott;

Outstanding Director: Igor Golyak, Our Class;

Outstanding Choreographer: Connor Gallagher, The Big Gay Jamboree;

Outstanding Lead Performer in a Play: Kara Young, Table 17;

Outstanding Lead Performer in a Musical: Sarin Monae West, Medea: Re-Versed

Outstanding Ensemble: Our Class – Gus Birney, Andrey Burkovskiy, José Espinosa, Tess Goldwyn, Will Manning, Stephen Ochsner, Alexandra Silber, Richard Topol, Ilia Volok, and Elan Zafir;

Outstanding Scenic Design: Jan Pappelbaum, Our Class;

Outstanding Costume Design: Oana Botez, Orlando;

Outstanding Lighting Design: Tyler Micoleau, The Antiquities;

Outstanding Sound Design: Fabian Obispo, Sumo;

Outstanding Projection Design: David Bengali, Here There Are Blueberries.
