Hosted by actor and choreographer Thayne Jasperson (who portrayed Samuel Seabury in the original cast of Hamilton), the first-ever Broadway Ensemble Awards, honoring the “unsung heroes of the Broadway stage” and recognizing their essential contributions to musical theater, were presented in seven competitive categories last night (April 6), beginning at 6:30, at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater, preceded by the red-carpet arrivals at 5. As was previously announced, the original 1975 ensemble of A Chorus Line was also honored with the Broadway Ensemble Legendary Award.

Leading the awards was Chess with four wins, followed by Ragtime with two. Appearing as guest presenters and performers were Lillias White, Seth Rudetsky, Bradley Dean, Seth Stewart, Aisha Jackson, JoAnne M. Hunter, Robert Montano, Kurt Csolak, Kevin Csolak, Eric Williams, Kyra DaCosta, Rachelle Rak, Stephanie Pope, and The Chocolettes, with a special acknowledgment of the 75th Anniversary of the Legacy Robe – an Actors Equity opening-night tradition of Broadway musicals that began in 1950, in which the ensemble member with the most Broadway credits receives the robe.
