The Howard County Summer Theatre proudly marks a major milestone with its 50th production: the beloved classic Fiddler on the Roof. Running June 18, 20, 24–27 at 7:00 PM, with matinees on June 21 and 28 at 2:00 PM, this golden-anniversary production brings renewed urgency and emotional resonance to a story that feels as relevant today as ever.
Set in the small village of Anatevka, Fiddler on the Roof follows Tevye, a humble dairyman, as he navigates the delicate balance between tradition and change in a rapidly shifting world. Featuring iconic songs such as “Tradition,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Matchmaker,” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” the musical explores themes of family, faith, resilience, racism and the courage to adapt in uncertain times.

In today’s climate — marked by cultural division, displacement, and evolving social norms — Fiddler on the Roof speaks powerfully to audiences grappling with questions of identity, belonging, and what it means to hold onto one’s values while embracing change. This production highlights the universality of those struggles, drawing poignant parallels between Tevye’s world and our own.
“Reaching our 50th production is an extraordinary moment for our theatre group,” said Director Tom Sankey. “We chose Fiddler on the Roof not only for its enduring popularity, but because its message about community, empathy, and resilience feels especially urgent right now.”
Audiences can expect a vibrant, emotionally rich staging featuring a full cast, live orchestra, and dynamic choreography that honors the show’s legacy while offering a fresh perspective for contemporary viewers.
