Tonight, March 11 – Reading of New Play by Seamus Collins
The Man Who Monday, March 11, 2013, 7:30 pm At Flashpoint – Mead Theater Lab, 916 G Street, NW, Washington, D.C.  BBC-award winning Belfast playwright Seamus Collins brings his quirky take on the invention of the wheel to hilarious life at Flashpoint. The reading is directed by Solas Nua’s Rex Daugherty and presented in partnership with Artists’ Bloc. The playwright describes his play in development like this: Life has a funny way of repeating itself, so it does. No-one remembers The Man Who Invented the Wheel, who he was, what his dreams and obsessions were. This is a completely made up true story about invention, where our ideas come from and how wheels can hold us back. Life has a funny way of repeating itself, so it does. Playwright Seamus Collins will join the audience in a talk back after the show. Seamus Collins was chosen as one of the winners of the BBC Writersroom 10 competition in 2011, which led to a year-long mentoring scheme with the BBC. He is a recent graduate of Queen’s University Belfast where he completed his MA. He was mentored by playwright Owen McCafferty. His work has been performed in various cities including Belfast, Edinburgh, Galway and Newcastle as well as at various festivals throughout the UK and Ireland such as The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and The Irish Student Drama Festival. He has also had a radio play produced by BBC Radio 3. He recently received funding to make a short film with Northern Ireland Screen and is developing a sitcom with Mighty Sprite, an independent comedy production company based in Belfast. He has also just finished working on The Swing State Cabaret, satirical sketches about the 2012 US presidential elections, with Tinderbox Theatre Company.
