Here are The 2013 Tony Award WINNERS

The American Theatre Wing announced its Tony Award winners tonight. Among the winners were Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,  that stopped at Arena Stage. It was awarded Best Revival of a Play, and won awards for Tracy Letts (Best Actor in a Play), and Pam MacKinnon (Best Director in a Play). Infinity Theatre’s Alan and Anna Roberts Ostroff were part of the producing team for Pippin, which was awarded Best Revival of a Musical.

Joel Markowitz
Joel Markowitz is the Publisher and Editor of DCMetroTheaterArts. He founded the site with his brother Bruce to help promote the vast riches of theatre and the arts in the DC Metro area that includes Maryland, Virginia, and DC theater and music venues, universities, schools, Children's theaters, professional, and community theatres. Joel is an advocate for promoting the 'stars of the future' in his popular 'Scene Stealers' articles. He wrote a column for 5 years called ‘Theatre Schmooze’ and recorded podcast interviews for DC Theatre Scene. His work can also be seen and read on BroadwayStars. Joel also wrote a monthly preview of what was about to open in DC area theatres for BroadwayWorld. He is an avid film and theater goer, and a suffering Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan. Joel was a regular guest on 'The Lunch and Judy Show' radio program starring Judy Stadt in NYC. Joel founded The Ushers Theatre Going Group in the DC area in 1990, which had a 25-year run when it took its final curtain call last year. Joel is a proud member of The American Critics Association.

  1. While Kinky Boots was quite deserving of this Tony, I believe there was a HUGE ERROR in Tony nominations this year! Jekyll & Hyde and it’s leading actor Constantine Maroulis was over looked and I’m not certain as to why? The performace by Maroulis was second to none! An outstanding portrayal of Dr. Henry Jekyll played w/ such passion. As Edward Hyde, Maroulis added a new edgy approach that was simply outstanding and a crowd pleaser at each and every performance I attended! This show was brilliantly cast with Deborah Cox (a grammy award nom) and the delightful, angelic voice of Teal Wicks! This show was simply amazing and VERY DESERVING OF A TONY NOM. (which is why I felt compelled to comment) To “The Cast and Crew” at Jekyll & Hyde and to the talented Frank Wildhorn who re-wrote many songs to match the amazing voices of Maroulis and Cox, THANKS FOR A GREAT SHOW and for providing so many with a stellar CD of this new and exciting musical! My only hope is that someone is smart enough to make a DVD of this show so that more people could appreciate Great Acting & this TALENTED CAST!
