Ke$ha at Wolf Trap by Erica Laxson

There’s more than one way to put on an incredible show, and I think Ke$ha had a hard time choosing just one because last night’s energized concert was full of surprises! The wildly popular rock and pop diva threw quite a party for her devoted glitter and neon paint-covered fans. From grinding sparks and fabulous dancers to mind bending visuals and catchy music, it was quite the concert experience full of explicit lyrics and shock and awe pyrotechnics

Opening act Semi Precious Weapons knew how to work it on stage and in their music. The band, made of members Justin Tranter, Cole Whittle, Dan Crean, and Stevy Pyne, have created a unique sound that you can’t help but dance to. Their style ranges from post-punk and crazy beats to easy to listen to pop and sexy, saucy lyrics. It’s no wonder they’ve had a long relationship with Lady Gaga as they channel the same kind of fun and fancy free music she is so known for. They were fun to watch live and took total control of the stage while they performed.

The second opening act was none other than Mike Posner, who is known for his single “Cooler Than Me. Posner’s relaxed style went over well with the crowd, but they were obviously there for fast paced music to dance to. Posner didn’t nail every song he belted out which made for a disappointing live performance, but his hit single was a great end to his set.

Ke$ha is known for her spectacular live performances and last night was a true exploration of her wild partygirl image. As she rocked her way around the stage, she was surrounded by a gaggle of talented backup dancers that brought each song to a whole new level of flirty fun. These men moved their bodies in ways I didn’t even know was possible and effortlessly tied themselves into Ke$ha’s own dancing and acrobatics. The staging for the show was as over-the-top as you could hope for and featured moving set pieces, inflatable props, industrial machinery and more!

It wouldn’t be a Ke$ha show without multiple costume changes, all of which perfectly fit her anthem of self-love, sexual exploration and love of partying. To entertain the crowd while she got glitterfied, a series of sensual short videos played to live music played by her incredibly talented backup band. The entire evening was full of smoke and glitter guns, that showered the audience and great live music that sounded true to the clarity her studio versions. The explicit show was a thrill ride of can’t help but dance to music, impressive vocals, and digital and live special effects. This woman truly knows how to put on an entertaining performance and obviously has fun while doing it.

5 stars for an energetic evening of rock and pop that delivered stunning visuals, amazing dancers, and Ke$ha’s remarkable live singing.

Ke$ha played for one night only on August 12, 2013 at The Filene Center at Wolf Trap – 1551 Trap Road, in Vienna, VA. For future performances and Information, check their calendar of events.
