Shakespeare Theatre Company Reaches Lansburgh Theatre Agreement

According to  Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Managing Director Chris Jennings, an agreement  has been reached that ensures that they will continue to occupy their longtime home in the Lansburgh Theatre.

“Shakespeare Theatre Company initiated litigation in June 2012 as a last resort, only after the landlord insisted upon an exorbitant rent increase and ordered us to vacate the Lansburgh Theatre premises. A court order entered the following December stopped the defendants from evicting or otherwise interfering with the Shakespeare Theatre Company supporting charity while all parties continued negotiations.

Both sides reported to the DC Superior Court yesterday that they have negotiated and documented a final agreement. Shakespeare Theatre Company’s representatives signed this agreement yesterday and once signed by the developer – Shakespeare Theatre Company expects this matter to finally be concluded. Under the terms of this agreement, Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Lansburgh Theatre – under a succession of 20-year leases – will automatically renew as long as Shakespeare Theatre Company is operating as a theatre company and properly maintaining the premises.”
