With the holidays nearly upon us (Thanksgiving week marks the halfway point for this season), it is instructive to look at the topline results for the Broadway season so far and to compare them with prior seasons.
Revenues for this season (26 weeks) have been $565.6 million, +7.3% vs. year ago ($527.1 million) and +11.8% vs. two years ago ($505.9 million).
Attendance has been 5.45 million, -0.9% vs. last year (5.50 million) and -2.0% vs. two years ago (5.56 million).
Thus the average ticket price this season have been $103.69, +8.2% vs last season ($95.81) and +14.0% vs. two years ago ($90.93).
The key takeaway is that hefty increases in ticket prices over two years (+$12.76/ticket) have occurred at the same time attendance continues to decline (by 109,504 over two years).
