From John Hauge: “My brother Stephen and I created the TrueTheatergoer.com website in October 2011 to promote theater in Washington, DC and on Broadway by providing an enriching collection of information on current shows and composite audience reviews and ratings of these shows. Our hope is to further develop a community excited about theater and willing to write short comments of shows so others can benefit from their experiences.”

This Week’s TheaterThoughts

The Fall Season Part II

We mentioned in the last posting that no play that carried over into this season from the 2012-13 season is still open — and as of March 3rd, no play that has opened this year will be open.

Moreover, of the 12 plays that opened this season, nine were revivals of classics (four of them Shakespeare)and one the revival of Billy Crystal’s 700 Sundays. Only two — A Time to Kill and The Snow Geese — were new, and neither of these has done well.

Only five plays are currently scheduled for the rest of the season: MachinalOutside MullingarBronx BombersAll the Way, and Raisin.

Que pasa?

We will attempt to address this sorry state next week.

Openings:
1) Beautiful – The Carole King Story is in previews and will open January 12, 2014.
2) Machinal will begin previews on December 20 and open January 16.
