What ever happened to…..Naked Theatre Company?
So, what ever happened to us? Well, we’re back, with a vengeance. This summer, this bitch is back with Bitch: A Play About Antigone, a play by Andy Boyd. We are particularly excited about this piece—about transparency in government—in DC. It seemed particularly apropos for our company’s emphasis on making the creative process transparent. So what’s so bitchin’ about Bitch, anyway? For starters, it’s a DC-premiere for playwright Andy Boyd. Andy has been working closely with NTC and the director, Julia Sears, on revising his play for its DC premiere. As the title suggests, Bitch is, in fact, a play about Antigone. The Greek tragedy of Antigone is set against the backdrop of a city like DC and a country like the US of A. But what else is it about? Politics, maybe. Hackers, perhaps. Drones. Oh, and Slurpees. It’s part action movie, part Greek tragedy, part political thriller—and we think it’s kind of funny, too. 
The show’s Director, Julia Sears, shared her thoughts on the piece: “The issue of government transparency is something we’re inundated with in our political climate. What excites me about working on this play is the opportunity to start a conversation on the issues of transparency and transgression in all levels of government. Andy has used the classical text of <em “>Antigone, which allows the story to play out in a big theatrical context and offers different sides of the same story. I am also pleased to be working with artists from very different backgrounds and occupations, including academia, stand-up comedy, and media. They are all coming together to do this show, and Naked Theatre Company offers a chance for the audience to be a part of this conversation.”
So now, we’ve told you what we think it’s about. But, in addition to N TC sharing the creative process, we also want you to share a little something with us. Last year, we simply turned a webcam on and set it in the corner of the rehearsal room, baring it all in a live-stream on the internet. This time, we want the process to be more interactive. We want to start a conversation with you. We want you to be an active participant along the journey towards the finish line to Opening Night (which is, fortuitously, ‘Free Slurpee Day’).
