In Part 4 of a series of interviews with the writer, producer, and director and the cast of Girl with Two Belly Buttons, meet Scott Duvall.
In Girl with Two Belly Buttons, Izzy, at age 60, is sick and alone. She has had so many relationships. Why did they all fail? Then Izzy meets Izabela, her 30-year-old self, and the two explore what went wrong (or right) with their once and future boyfriends.
Today we interview Scott Duvall, who plays Dakota, the second of the six boyfriends portrayed.
Please introduce yourself and tell us about your performing background.
Scott: I’ve been in two small student films. This is my theatre debut.
Why did you want to appear in Girl with Two Belly Buttons?
I really liked the premise of the story. I hadn’t read anything like it before. Plus, I always thought performing in a festival would be an exciting part of my life. It’s something new.
How do you personally relate to the character of Dakota?
Dakota is a very passionate pursuer of his dreams. He is in love with filmmaking. I’ve been a musician for most of my life, so I understand the intensity that drives Dakota outside his love life.
In the script for Girl with Two Belly Buttons, Dakota is described as “The Best Friend.” Do you agree with this assessment?
I do. Dakota and Izabela meet in a film class and find a strong, creative force within each other. They have a chemistry that requires a certain amount of time to achieve.
What are your goals as an actor?
I’ve been into acting for only a few years, but I’d like to take it as far as I can go. When I first set out, I had the goal of being recognized in indie film. So far, it is still my endgame, but I would also like to try getting into television at some point.
What excites you about participating in the 2015 Capital Fringe Festival?
It’s a well-known event around DC. I’ve met many actors who are, or have been, a part of it. I see it as a great way to join the community.
