Let’s take a quick tour of three restaurants in Sussex County Delaware. That happens to be the shore which includes Rehoboth, Lewes, Bethany, Fenwick, and Dewey.
These first two restaurants are in Rehoboth. We’ll begin at 316 Rehoboth Avenue at the Chesapeake & Maine. The name derives from the fact all the seafood offered is from those areas. It’s open seven days for lunch and dinner with a daily happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM.
It’s certainly beach casual, they do not take reservations, open all year and it’s owned by Dogfish. Signature items include the summer lobster risotto and the Maine dinner (lobster, clams, mussels, crabs). You might ask about the raw bar special. I had the ratatouille pasta and can recommend it for pasta lovers. Reach them at (302) 226-3600 or online.
Our next stop is the Fork + Flash – 19730 Coastal Highway. This is open seven days with dinner only Monday thru Friday. Saturday and Sunday they offer a brunch from 10 AM to 1 PM. Dinner Service begins at 4 PM.
The menu is basically divided into three categories: Cultivated (vegetarian), Caught (seafood, shellfish), and Raised (cattle and poultry). The menu will change weekly but when I was there the signature items were the classic Nage French onion soup, the classic Nage burger, hummus, and the oysters asiago.
This takes reservations. They have a bar, open kitchen and entertainment Fridays. It opened May 16th. It’s owned by the Nage Restaurant located next door. Reach them (302) 226-2037 or online.
Out last stop is the Crooked Hammock Brewery – 36707 Crooked Hammock Way, just off route 1 in Lewes. Again beach casual, no reservations, 3 TVs, an outdoor grill area with plenty of seating. It’s open seven days for lunch and dinner, with live music nightly, open year round and all beers brewed on premise. You can watch the brew master at work. I think upon request you might be able to get a tour.

Okay, one final non-restaurant stop – I think it’s a great family activity so I want to include it. It’s Jungle Jim’s Water Park- 36944 Country Club Road, just off route 1.
On a hot day, beside the ocean, this is the ideal place to be. It is loaded with water activities like the Lazy River and Anaconda Water Slide. Open everyday until Labor Day, they also have batting cages and mini golf.
Rehoboth is an excellent location for a vacation. Recently it seems to have become more of a destination spot for Marylanders. If you want to try something a little different, other than a hotel/motel room, why not try renting a house.
