C-c-c c’mon: Monumental Theatre Company Announces 2019 Season

Monumental Theatre Company is not messing around: After their 2018 win at this year’s Helen Hayes Awards, Monumental is gearing up for a season guaranteed to impress. From off-Broadway indie hits to Broadway’s next big thing, here is Monumental’s 2019 lineup: Dress Up Day, Daddy Long Legs, Flip Flop, and Be More Chill.

Dress Up Day will be presented in February 2019. Directed by Megan Bunn, the musical celebrates creativity and personal expression. When a spunky first-grader discovers that all her friends have the same plans for their school’s dress up day, she goes on a quest to discover who she truly is. Appropriate for young audiences. Music by Roc Lee, Book and Lyrics by Jenna Murphy. Location and exact date to be announced.

Daddy Long Legs will be presented March 7-31, 2019. The show has a book by John Caird, and music and lyrics by Paul Gordon. Monumental Co-Artistic Director, Michael Windsor, will direct. Daddy Long Legs tells the story of a young woman, her young benefactor, and the love that grows between them by way of handwritten letters. This two-person musical, set in the late nineteenth century, has timeless themes and contemporary music that make the story accessible for all generations. The musical will be presented at the Ainslie Arts Center on the campus of Episcopal High School. The address is 3900 W. Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA 22304.

Flip Flop will be presented Summer 2019. Directed by Monumental Co-Artistic Directors, Jimmy Mavrikes and Michael Windsor, the miscast cabaret returns for another year. Location and exact date to be announced.

Be More Chill will be presented July 11-29, 2019. Directed by Izzy Smelkinson, with music direction by Marika Countouris, this musical is based on a popular teen fiction novel and tells the story of Jeremy, a high school “loser,” who goes to great lengths to gain self-confidence. Be More Chill, with book by Joe Tracz and music and lyrics by Joe Iconis, recently celebrated a successful sold-out run Off Broadway. The show will transfer to The Lyceum Theatre this spring. Monumental will produce the show summer 2019 at the Ainslie Arts Center on the campus of Episcopal High School. The address is 3900 W. Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA 22304.
