Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre To Host Free Staged Reading of ‘Mids and Johnnies’ on September 20

This work-in-development is an uplifting new musical about life in Annapolis.

Looking for an uplifting original musical? Check out Mids and Johnnies, a new musical about life in Annapolis.

The plot revolves around Roman, a Ruritanian foreign-exchange student at St. John’s College, and Julie, a female midshipman at the Naval Academy. As you might expect, the course of their romance does not always go smoothly!

However, love eventually surmounts all the obstacles, and the show has a happy ending.

In addition to the ups and downs of Roman and Julie’s relationship, Mids and Johnnies portrays many facets of life in our town, including sailing, seafood, history, the legislature, sightseeing, and the activities of such entities as the Annapolis Striders, the Sons of the Severn, the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre, and local eateries.

A staged reading (a.k.a. “workshop”) is a trial run of a new stage production, in which experienced thespians, provided with the script and the music score, act out the dialogue and sing the songs. This indicates which scenes and songs already “work”, and where some adjusting is needed.

You can contribute to the development of Mids and Johnnies by attending the workshop and jotting down some comments and suggestions on worksheets that will be provided to everyone in the audience.

The workshop will be held at 8:00 pm on the evening of Friday, September 20th, on the stage of the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre down by the City Dock, or in case of rain, at the St. Mary’s High School, nearby at 113 Duke of Gloucester Street.

Come one and all to enjoy this new musical and participate in its development!

Mids and Johnnies plays as a staged reading one-night-only on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre – 143 Compromise Street, in Annapolis, MD. Tickets are free but attendees are asked to register online.
