A Resounding ‘Treasure Island’ with Broadway’s Rob McClure and Maggie Lakis

Ahoy, Mateys! Join a virtual audio adventure for all ages this Black Friday aboard the sailing ship Hispaniola, as young Jim Hawkins and the expedition crew hunt for lost booty, face mutiny, and battle Long John Silver and his band of rum-swilling sword-toting pirates under the Jolly Roger black flag, with only a cryptic scrawled map and an X-marks-the-spot to guide them.

The new listening version of Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 novel Treasure Island, inspired by Orson Welles’ radio play of 1938 (one of the many major productions of the iconic seafaring tale for the stage, screen, and airwaves), is adapted by Creative Director Steve Wargo for Resounding and presented live for two nights only over Thanksgiving weekend. With its revolutionary proprietary technology, the audio entertainment company creates a “virtual venue” that fully immerses audiences in a binaural “3-D” soundscape (designed by Andy Evan Cohen) of the crashing waves of the high seas, the boom of cannon fire, and all of the swashbuckling and derring-do that define the popular action-packed story of “buccaneers and buried gold.”

Broadway luminaries and real-life married couple Maggie Lakis (Something Rotten; Avenue Q) and Tony nominee Rob McClure (Beetlejuice; Mrs. Doubtfire) bring their expressive voices to the lead characters Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver respectively, with McClure also providing the narration. They are joined remotely by Victoria Huston-Elem (first national tours of Finding Neverland and Addams Family), Christian Elán Ortiz (West Side Story), Kurt Uy (CBS’s Tommy; Vietgone), Rolonda Watts (Divorce Court; Rolonda), and Stuart Williams (The Plot Against America; Turn: Washington’s Spies), each voicing multiple roles in the hour-long family-friendly presentation.

Along with the show, Resounding, in its mission to create an experience that will help us enjoy “a night out” even though we’re all indoors, provides adult audience members with the recipe for a signature themed cocktail (The Year of Grace), created by Jena Ellenwood, and a curated pre-show playlist of pirate songs to put you in the mood for “Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!”

Treasure Island plays November 27-28, 2020, at 8 pm, on Resounding. For tickets, go online.
