Tom Prewitt memorial fund set up to aid future generations of aspiring artists

The family of W. Thompson (Tom) Prewitt and the nonprofit organization Embracing Arlington Arts have launched a memorial fund to honor the legacy and contributions of longtime DC-area theater professional and former Executive and Artistic Director of Avant Bard Theatre Tom Prewitt. “On behalf of my mother, Eun-Joo, and the rest of my family, I’d like to express my gratitude for the guidance of the Arlington Community Foundation, and for the support of Embracing Arlington Arts, in helping establish this fund,” said Alex Prewitt, Tom’s son. “I can think of no better way to honor and further my father’s dedication to championing theater in his community than to aid future generations of aspiring artists who share his passion for the stage.”

The Tom Prewitt Fund for Theatre Arts, which is being managed through the Arlington Community Foundation, will foster Tom’s lifelong passion for mentoring aspiring young theater artists and nurturing theater/community partnerships. “We are honored to be working with Tom’s family to create this Fund in order to help nurture theater students, support school-based theater, encourage youth engagement in local theater, and generally support the performing arts in Tom’s name,” said Janet Kopenhaver, president of Embracing Arlington Arts.

The Prewitt family and Embracing Arlington Arts are encouraging anyone whose life has been positively impacted by Tom — either professionally or as a patron, friend, or family member — to make a donation to the Fund. For information on how you can donate either online or with a check, go to this link.

“Although Tom is missed so much,” Kopenhaver said, “this memorial fund will ensure that his work helping students and young theater professionals that he stressed during his entire career will continue through generations to come.”
