Stars of the stage, screen, and ice are streaming with exciting new works this Thursday, which are sure to delight fans worldwide with their unique talents and top-notch performances.
Jeremy Jordan: Carry On – A Tony and Grammy nominee for his role in Newsies, actor-singer-songwriter Jeremy Jordan (also known for his TV appearances as a series regular on CW’s Supergirl and NBC’s Smash) brings his hauntingly beautiful voice and captivating storytelling skills back to Feinstein’s/54 Below with suitcase in hand, more than a year after his last live pre-pandemic performance there.
Beginning with his self-penned titular opening number (accompanied by a full band and back-up singers, with music direction by Benjamin Rauhala – named “Best Musical Director” at the 2020 BroadwayWorld Cabaret Awards), he sings a meaningful variety of shows tunes and contemporary songs (some never before heard), interspersed with expressive personal stories about the arrival of his daughter in 2019, and his new life as a father. Throughout the intimate autobiographical cabaret concert/musical narrative, which Jordan wrote and directed, he imagines the baby’s future while unloading his baggage with humor and heart, pulling out pieces of memorabilia that trigger emotional memories of his own complicated past.
Presented as part of the 54 Below Premieres series, the show was performed and recorded in five-camera HD shoots on the club’s iconic stage, with no public in-house audience and following strict COVID guidelines. Directed for the screen by Cody Williams, with video production by Ordinary Sunday and cinematography by Adam Paul Verity), Jeremy Jordan: Carry On makes its virtual debut on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 8 pm, and will be available on demand May 7-June 17, 2021. The May 6th premiere also includes a live chat for fans to interact with each other before and during the show. Pivoting Through The Pandemic – Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY), founded by Artistic Director Moira North to advance dance on ice as a performance art in both traditional and site-specific venues, will present a free streaming on May 6, at 8:00 pm, featuring the Company, champion ice artists Jason Brown, Kaitlyn Weaver, and Elladj Balde, and a special appearance by artist, athlete, and LGBTQ rights activist Adam Rippon. The evening will include two new ITNY repertory pieces, a reflection on the past year, and a look forward to the company’s 35th anniversary celebration next year.
“It occurred to me, with all the talk about pivoting through the pandemic, that since skating has an actual move called a ‘pivot,’ it would be a great idea to do a socially distanced ensemble piece appropriate for these times,” said North. “We were delighted to commission Joel Dear for the choreography of ‘Pivoting’ and Jordan Cowan from On Ice Perspectives to film this unique piece.” ITNY has also commissioned the Olympian Weaver to create the first solo dance repertory piece for the Company, which she choreographed and will perform in its world premiere on the broadcast.
The free (or pay-what-you-can) show will be followed at 8:45 pm by a discussion with the artists, moderated by Doug Haw and open to supporters who make a donation of $125 or more (suggested donation levels are Friend $125, Sponsor $250, Patron $500, and Ice Angel $1,000).
