Emergent Seed—a new arts program that aims to address financial stress caused by COVID-19 closures—hosts its first in-person event Saturday, September 25, 2021, when it showcases four Emergent Seed grant winners at Gallery O on H from 7 pm to 11 pm as part of DC’s Art All Night festival.
The event is free and open to the public and will be outside in a gorgeous courtyard (one of the District’s best-kept secrets) and stocked with drinks for anyone looking to enjoy the evening. “I really think this event, which supports local musicians and writers, will be one of the highlights of Art All Night this year,” said Emergent Seed founder Adrianna Smith.
Emergent Seed’s mission is to support emerging musicians and writers with grants and the opportunity to share their work with new audiences—for instance, this year’s Tiny Desk Contest Winner is an Emergent Seed Winner.
Two of the performers Saturday have backgrounds in theater and performing arts. Ronya-Lee Anderson‘s multimedia projects have been commissioned and supported by Dance Place, Duke University, the Maryland State Arts Council, Aunt Karen’s Farm, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She has performed and taught nationally and internationally and is currently pursuing a doctorate at UMD in Theatre and Performance Studies. Lauryn Alicia Nesbitt is a multidisciplinary writer, curator, teaching artist, spoken word artist, and all around creative who also has a background in theater and film.
Join Gallery O on H and Emergent Seed at Art All Night and enjoy original performances by local emerging musicians and writers. Free online registration is encouraged. Enter through the Gallery and check out the newest work by Rodney “Buck!” Herring, a Mayor’s Award–winning local artist; then break out to the Courtyard for live performance, music, and the bar.
